Preface

Recently I had the startling realization that global warming has become an impending threat to the survival of all life on Earth. One major contributor to global warming is the buildup of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) from the burning of fossil fuels.

My experience as a citizen lobbyist for the environment has taught me that influence peddling and politics are interfering with our government’s ability to set higher standards for global warming emissions. Recognizing that I could not wait for government to act, I realized that there was something within my control that I could do: reduce my personal use of gasoline. While I looked for ways to cut down on my gasoline consumption, I designed a planner to record my car mileage and expenses.

As I used my planner, I became more aware of how I traveled, used my car, and scheduled my activities. Within a month’s time I was able to reduce my driving by 75 miles (121 km) or eleven percent. Although this may seem like a drop in the bucket, if a majority of consumers were to achieve a similar result, within just a year’s time we could significantly decrease the rate of CO2 emissions. Subsequently, I decided to publish my planner as The Save Gas Book - Your Planning Guide and offer it to the public at a nominal price.

It is my hope that The Save Gas Book enables you to incorporate simple changes into your daily life that will help preserve the planet for the future of all its inhabitants.
